BUILDING WHAT COMES NEXT

Creating more options, opportunities, and support for adults with disabilities in Southeast Arkansas.

Better Housing Solutions was founded with a long-term vision: to expand the housing, service, and support options available to adults with physical, developmental, and intellectual disabilities and the families who support them throughout Southeast Arkansas.

We know that meaningful change does not happen overnight. Building sustainable programs, developing strong community partnerships, raising funds, and creating appropriate facilities takes time.

Today, BHS is laying that foundation.

Better Housing Solutions is currently in the planning and development stage and is not yet providing direct services. Our future plans are being developed in phases so that we can grow responsibly, respond to the needs of our community, and build programs that are sustainable for the individuals and families we hope to serve.

Each phase brings us one step closer to creating more choices, greater support, and new opportunities for adults with disabilities in our community.

Where We Are Today

2026 | BUILDING THE FOUNDATION

Our current work focuses on:

  • planning and program development;

  • fundraising;

  • building community partnerships;

  • outreach and education;

  • identifying community needs;

  • developing future service models; and

  • preparing for the responsible launch of BHS programs and services.

This stage matters. The work happening now is helping create the foundation for the services BHS hopes to provide in the years ahead.

PHASE ONE

2027 | BEGINNING SERVICES

Our goal is to begin offering BHS services during 2027.

Rather than waiting until every part of our long-term vision is complete, BHS is exploring opportunities to begin serving the community in practical and sustainable ways.

TRANSPORTATION

Transportation may be one of the first services BHS develops.

For many adults with disabilities, limited transportation can create barriers to employment, appointments, community activities, social opportunities, and greater independence.

Our goal is to explore transportation options that can help connect individuals with the places, activities, and services that are important to their daily lives.

Transportation services are currently planned and are not yet available.

DAY SERVICES

BHS is also working toward the development of a day facility for adults with disabilities.

Our goal is to work toward opening a BHS day facility by the end of 2027, as funding, development, program requirements, and other necessary resources allow.

The future day program may provide opportunities for:

  • life-skills development;

  • social interaction;

  • recreational activities;

  • community participation;

  • greater independence;

  • structured daytime activities; and

  • individualized support based on program capabilities.

The final design of BHS day services will continue to develop as we listen to individuals, families, professionals, and community partners.

The BHS day facility is a future program and is not currently operating.

PHASE TWO

2028 & BEYOND | EXPANDING THE VISION

As BHS grows, our long-term goal is to expand beyond initial services and create additional options for adults with disabilities and their families.

RESPITE CARE

Caregivers provide an extraordinary amount of support to their loved ones.

Future BHS respite services are envisioned as a way to provide families with dependable short-term support while ensuring the individual receiving care is treated with dignity, respect, and compassion.

Respite may eventually provide families with opportunities to attend to other responsibilities, manage emergencies, rest, or simply have time knowing their loved one is in a supportive environment.

Respite care is part of the future BHS vision and is not currently available.

FULL-TIME RESIDENTIAL SERVICES

One of the long-term priorities of Better Housing Solutions is the development of safe, appropriate residential options for adults with disabilities.

We envision residential environments that are designed around the needs of the people who live there—not simply buildings where individuals are placed.

Our goal is to create housing opportunities that promote:

  • safety;

  • dignity;

  • stability;

  • personal choice;

  • appropriate levels of support;

  • community connection; and

  • the greatest degree of independence possible for each individual.

The development of residential services will depend on funding, property development, regulatory requirements, partnerships, staffing, and the needs of the community.

BHS does not currently operate a residential facility or provide housing placements.

MORE THAN A BUILDING

The future of Better Housing Solutions is about more than constructing facilities. It is about creating more choices, greater support, and meaningful opportunities for adults with disabilities and the families who love them.

For some, that may mean reliable transportation that makes it easier to participate in the community. For others, it may mean structured daytime support, opportunities to build life skills and relationships, dependable respite for caregivers, or a safe and appropriate place to call home.

Every person’s needs are different, which is why BHS believes the future must include more than a one-size-fits-all solution.

As our programs and facilities grow, our purpose will remain the same: to help create a Southeast Arkansas where adults with disabilities have greater opportunities to live with dignity, make meaningful choices, participate in their communities, build relationships, and experience a true sense of belonging.

More options. More opportunity. More belonging.

HELP US BUILD WHAT COMES NEXT

Better Housing Solutions cannot build this future alone.

Creating more opportunities for adults with disabilities will take families, individuals with disabilities, businesses, churches, civic organizations, volunteers, donors, professionals, and community leaders working together with a shared purpose.

There are many ways to be part of what BHS is building. You can volunteer your time, become a community partner, sponsor an event or initiative, support a fundraiser, purchase items that benefit the mission, make a financial contribution, or simply help others learn about the need.

Every partnership matters. Every connection strengthens the foundation. And every person who chooses to stand with BHS helps move this vision one step closer to reality.

Together, we can help build a future with more choices, more support, and more opportunities for adults with disabilities throughout Southeast Arkansas.

INTERESTED IN FUTURE BHS SERVICES?

If you or someone you support may be interested in future Better Housing Solutions programs or services, we would love to hear from you.

Our Future Services Interest Form gives individuals and families an opportunity to share which services may be most helpful to them as BHS continues planning for the future. The information you provide will help us better understand community needs, identify priorities, and make more informed decisions as future programs are developed.

Completing this form does not enroll you in services or guarantee future eligibility or placement. It simply helps BHS listen, learn, and plan responsibly for the individuals and families we hope to serve.

Every Home. Every Heart. Every Life.
